Payback 2013 » Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk

If there’s anyone who wants a little payback in the WWE locker room, it’s got to be Chris
Jericho. Only months after his cryptic return in January 2012, The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’
Rolla mounted two monstrous challenges against then-WWE Champion CM Punk, the
first and most epic unfolding under the hot Miami night at WrestleMania XXVIII. And
despite an all-time effort on behalf of the original Undisputed Champion, Jericho walked
away empty-handed when The Show of Shows folded up its tents.
But given that Jericho was unable to reclaim the WWE Title on The Grandest Stage of
Them All, it makes sense that Y2J threw the gauntlet one more time at the feet of The
Straight Edge Superstar, laying down a challenge for his recent rival on the May 27
edition of Monday Night Raw. On paper, the plan is perfect: A tailor-made rematch for two
of the ring’s premier competitors, staged under the banner of a pay-per-view whose very
name promises Payback.
There is, of course, only one problem with this strategy: CM Punk is not here.
Nor has he been for some time, since walking off into the sunset after suffering his own WrestleMania defeat to The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29. Punk’s whereabouts have been one of the hot topics of conversation; WWE.com even took a stab at figuring it out. But
despite The Second City Saint’s absence from the squared circle, Jericho still found a way to make his challenge to the absentee Punk
stick by manipulating Paul Heyman into accepting on his client’s behalf during an intense session of “The Highlight Reel.”
So now, for the first time in a long time, CM Punk wherever he is finds himself backed into a corner. With Jericho competing (and winning)
on a weekly basis, the MIA “Best in the World” finds himself facing a Hall of Fame-caliber Superstar who’s riding high off his second win.
And with that rhythmically-gifted, figurative monkey finally off his back, Jericho’s confidence is about as high as it’s ever going to be (it
doesn’t bode well for Punk that their last, one-off encounter nearly ended with Y2J victorious as well).
As for Punk who knows? Maybe he’ll show up at Payback. Maybe he’ll show up before then. And, of course, maybe he won’t. Maybe
Jericho’s counting on that, of exposing the man who humbled him on the highest pedestal of their shared profession as a broken man; of
being able to defeat him simply by way of his absence.
Imagine that, if Chris Jericho could beat CM Punk without throwing a single punch. Now that would really be payback.

News : Chris Jericho Leaving ? , D-Smart Deal & More

- WWE's website has a new storyline article up looking at how Chris Jericho has failed to win gold since returning in January and how this effects World Heavyweight Title match at Over the Limit as he goes against champion Sheamus, Randy Orton and Alberto Del Rio.
They are strongly teasing that Over the Limit may be it for Jericho this time around.
Here's some of what they wrote:

"Further, if Jericho fails to come away with the gold, will Over the Limit be the last time the WWE Universe ever sees the "Ayatollah of Rock n' Rollla" in the ring? Or can Jericho save his career with a huge win against three formidable opponents?

If this is to be his final stand, the smart money would be to bet on Jericho walking out of PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C., with the title in hand. Jericho is a survivor, and like a cornered lion, he'll be at his most dangerous with his back to the wall. Jericho will do anything — anything — to emerge from Over the Limit with the World Heavyweight Championship secured around his waist.

But even if he does overcome the other three competitors in the Fatal 4-Way, there's already plenty of speculation that the WWE Universe won't see much of Jericho in the coming months. His heavy metal band Fozzy is set to release a new studio album this summer, and tour dates have been planned.

That said, will his match at WWE Over the Limit be his lingering legacy? And if Y2J does decide to walk off into the sunset, will he do so with the World Heavyweight Championship around his waist?"

- WWE has signed a new TV deal with D-Smart in Turkey. The two-year deal will bring a one-hour version of WWE's RAW and SmackDown to Turkey TV. The shows will air on Saturday nights with SmackDown at 11pm and RAW at 12am on D-Smart's channel 177.

- Forbes has listed Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as one of the most powerful celebrities in the world and calls him one of the most bankable action movie stars. According to the article, "The Great One" he has made $36 million over the last 12 months and has helped save movie franchises like Fast and Furious, Journey to the Center of the Earth and GI Joe. The article noted that The Rock and his manager, ex-wife Dany Garcia, have decided to embrace his wrestling background after being forced to stop talking about his former career by his former management team.

- WWE's website has a new article up looking at the winning streaks of Brodus Clay, Lord Tensai and Ryback, wondering who will eat defeat first. They predict Lord Tensai's association with John Laurinaitis will cause him to lose first, followed by Brodus Clay. They wrote about Ryback:

"Meanwhile, Ryback could very likely prove to have the longest winning streak. Undefeated and unchallenged thus far, it seems probable he will continue winning and working his way up the WWE roster. Long story short, the WWE Universe should get used to the phrase, "Finish him!""

- Evan Bourne is still unsure of when he will be able to get back in the ring but revealed on Twitter that he is getting his cast off his arm today. Bourne added that he is still on crutches.
