WWE & TNA Co-Event Idea Teased In Yahoo Story, Paul Heyman Comments

Yahoo published an article on the possibility of a  WWE and TNA co-branded pay-per-view event. Below is an excerpt.

COMMENTARY | Lately, there has been a lot of talk among professional wrestling fans about a potential WWE vs. TNA pay-per-view. The thought of the top two American wrestling promotions squaring off is enough to get any fan excited, despite how slim the chances are of such a pay-per-view ever taking place.

Prior to the 1980s, it was not out of the ordinary for the World Heavyweight Champion of one promotion to meet the World Heavyweight Champion of another promotion. Although billed as a chance to see rival belts united, these contests always ended in a one-hour draw or a disqualification. In other words, the belts didn’t change hands.

 Paul Heyman

But with the WWE so far ahead of TNA in terms of popularity, it’s hard to imagine a scenario in which McMahon would agree to co-promote a wrestling pay-per-view with his main rival. Recently, Paul Heyman spoke on the subject of a WWE vs. TNA pay-per-view and made the following analogy.

He said, “A friend of mine who has way too much time on his hands just started a new beverage company here in the United States. It’s called Schmuley’s Soda Company and he’s now distributed in three stores in the Bronx and two in Brooklyn. He would like to do a global promotion with Coca-Cola. I don’t suggest that Coca-Cola would be profitable having to do a global co-promotion with Schmuley’s Soda Company. In the same way it would make no sense for WWE with 95 percent global share to do an event with TNA with its 5 percent global market share.”

NEWS : Sting talks Undertaker at WrestleMania & More

TNA star Sting says he would still like to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania, but it sounds less likely than two years ago when both sides were close.

"It’s no secret. I’ve always wanted to wrestle Undertaker; I’ve said that for years. And who would not want to work WrestleMania," Sting told the VOC Nation Radio Network in an interview promoting his appearance at this weekend's "Legends of the Ring" convention in Monroe, N.J.

The comment comes across like "it would be nice if this happened" as opposed to dropping a hint about talking to WWE when his contract comes up again in early 2014.

"I do an annual contract every year and the rumors start right around January," Sting, 54, said. "The year that they did the (black and white) vignettes (in 2011), I had nothing to do with it and I had no conversations with the WWE at that time. Shortly afterward there were conversations (with WWE) just by happenstance but nothing official.”

Even though it seems unlikely that Sting will shift to WWE, Sting did say in the interview that the felt like his Hall of Fame induction last year was a sign of the company "putting me out to pasture," despite TNA president Dixie Carter saying that is "absolutely not" the case.

As for the current TNA product, Sting said he would like to work with Magnus, who Sting said "has the potential to be great." He added that, creatively, "We have to get James Storm and (Samoa) Joe going again."
