NEWS: Changes to The Shield evident in post-loss promo (w/Analysis of the group vs. individuals)

The Shield's trio of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns have always had individual personalities, but those personalities previously blended together to form one, solid unit.

Now, WWE is beginning to spread out and reinforce individual characteristics as part of changes to the group.

With The Shield having lost two six-man tag matches in two weeks, it's clear that changes are coming to the group. This was evident in a three-minute video promo released on WWE's website following The Shield's loss to Christian & The Usos in a six-man tag on Friday's Smackdown. (The promo can be viewed HERE on WWE.com.)

- U.S. champion Dean Ambrose: Ambrose is taking on the characteristics of an arrogant heel who over-states his importance. Ambrose has always been the more vocal leader of the group, but now he is beginning to look and feel like the typical undersized WWE heel whose bark is stronger than his bite.

In the post-loss promo, Ambrose called himself the most-important singles champion in WWE, an obvious boast when he's holding a second-tier title. Ambrose then tore into Christian, asking if he's washed up or "just a veteran," which will set up Christian and his fanbase looking for Ambrose to get comeuppance.

What separates Ambrose from other "undersized WWE heels" is how convincing he is as a diabolical vilain, which will eventually make him and WWE a lot of money down the road when he's a singles wrestler.

- Tag champion Roman Reigns: Reigns's change is most-intriguing. Throughout the post-loss promo, Reigns sat quietly next to Ambrose holding a serious, confident tone for the camera.

In the beginning, Reigns was the quiet muscle who was given one or two lines, then did his talking in the ring via The Spear. But, it seemed like Reigns was only given a few lines because he wasn't ready to do more talking.

Now, it feels like Reigns is only given a few lines because his character is ultra-confident and doesn't need more than a few words to make his point. He's almost become the "quiet strength" leader of the group, not "quiet muscle" whose only function is to beat people up and take orders.

In the post-loss promo, Reigns exuded a certain charisma, poise, and posture that made him look like a future top star. He has the pedigree because he's The Rock's cousin, and now he's developing the poise and right facial expressions that come with being a top star.

- Tag champion Seth Rollins: Rollins's character has probably changed the least of the three, playing the role of the out-spoken, hot-head who will do crazy things for "the cause" of The Shield.

In this post-loss promo, Rollins simply walked around in the background for three minutes selling frustration, anger, and inner-turmoil over The Shield's six-man tag loss on Smackdown. Rollins disappeared for a few seconds, returned to the camera shot in the background, and made his presence known only when appropriate without distracting from Ambrose's speech.

Rollins was spot-on in his portrayal of inner-turmoil ready to explode outwardly, making him stand out without over-shadowing.

Caldwell's Analysis: Overall, the group still has the presence and feel of a big deal, even though WWE curiously booked them to lose to the weakest three-man unit formed against them during their WWE run. It doesn't appear that the group is doomed; it feels more like WWE wants to accentuate some individual characteristics going forward to being Stage 2 of The Shield's run. It would be a good idea to return Shield to their winning ways - and over legit opposition - to make sure the audience still takes them seriously. And, fortunately for Shield, not too many people are watching Smackdown right now, so WWE can still keep the group strong on Raw and PPVs. It remains to be seen, though, with WWE's booking changing from week-to-week.

WWE Live Event result 29 June 2013

Alberto Del RioThanks to Ryan Murphy for sending in the following:
1) Sin Cara d. Cody Rhodes
A pretty good opening match, Cody did a good job drawing heat by mocking the mannerisms of Sin Cara, who was actually pretty over. (Although there was a kid in my section yelling "Go Rey Go") Sin Cara won with the senton.
2) AJ Lee d. Kaitlyn to retain the Diva's Title.
A standard but entertaining match from these two. AJ cut a promo on Kaitlyn, showing footage from Raw. A good amount of chants for Big E Langston, who played college football at nearby University of Iowa. AJ retained with a roll-up after Big E blocked Kaitlyn from getting to AJ on the outside. Langston stayed on the stage for a few extra seconds to a lot of cheers from the crowd.
3) The Great Khali d. Damien Sandow
Sandow cut a promo stating that "Nothing important happens in Iowa," but that his road to Money in the Bank would start there. Khali came out to a decent pop, and won with the Chop. Sandow drew a lot of heat with his yells of "Silence"
4) Randy Orton d. Wade Barrett
A MASSIVE pop for Orton. Orton and Barrett had a very entertaining match, reminiscent of their rivalry from a few years ago. Barrett mocked Orton's posing multiple times to good heat from the crowd. RKO out of nowhere for the 1-2-3.
5) Antonio Cesaro d. Justin Gabriel
This was the only match that a pretty hot crowd had no reaction to, even getting a "This is Boring" chant. Zeb cut a standard prematch promo, and Cesaro hit a Neutralizer for the win.
6) The Usos d. 3MB (Slater/Mahal)
A great match. The Usos were really over with the crowd, especially with the U-So chant. They teased the hot tag at least four times before delivering, with the Usos winning with the splash.
7) Alberto del Rio d. Dolph Ziggler to retain the World Heavyweight Title in a No DQ Match.
Ziggler was way over with the crowd, but they still chanted along with Ricardo's introduction. A very entertaining brawl, with canes and tables brought into the mix. Ziggler hit the Zig-Zag, but Ricardo hit Ziggler with the bucket, then dragged ADR over him for the win. Ziggler hit Ricardo with the ZigZag to send the crowd home happy.
Most Over:
1) Orton
2) Ziggler
3) Usos

Most Heat:
1) ADR, after the intro
2) Sandow
3) Rhodes

Thanks for a great site!

Death of Wrestling: Christian’s Return

Skull Cans
Greetings to all… It’s David Davis with my weekly blog: Death of Wrestling. For all of those who read this regularly, you will know that this is not a blog about bashing wrestling; it’s a blog of a frustrated fan, who loves the business and wishes that each week it could be a little better.
Yo, yo, yo people. It’s been a couple of weeks since my last post; mainly due to the fact that my daughter was born and I gave myself a little bit of paternity leave… But there has been so much I could have spoken about in that time… Great and weird booking involving the Shield, Austin Aries, Daniel Bryan, Ryback and of course Zeb Colter’s alliance with Antonio Cesaro. It’s not non-American’s he hates; just non-White people…
But my short blog back this week is just focusing on Christian’s return. Now Christian has been one of my favourites for a long time. I have to admit that during the Edge & Christian era I was a firm Edge head, but from the day they split, Christian did some amazing work and definitely got me, and most of the WWE Universe, on his side.
Unfortunately for Christian, Vince McMahon has never really seen him as a main-eventer, regardless of how hard the WWE Universe chants for him. In fact, Christian took his ball and went home, well to TNA and became the main event star that he should. Once again, unfortunately for Christian, only a handful of people watch TNA (comparatively speaking) and so he came back… home.
Of course, nothing much changed for him once he came back… He got a bit of a push and when Edge retired he enjoyed a bigger push and some great matches with Randy Orton. But injury prevailed and Christian was put on the shelf for what seemed like an eternity…
Now I’ve written quite a few blogs about the lack of depth in the roster, and the problems this can cause when people get injured etc. So surely, when the WWE has a star like Christian ready and waiting to come back they’d do something brilliant with him. Insert him in to a feud with some vigour; get us all excited and give us something to talk about…
But Christian didn’t return with a bang; it was more like a whimper. For the record, I don’t think that a feud with the Shield is a whimper, but it’s the way it was initiated – weird tag matches with Sheamus that just seem to happen to involve the Shield by chance, rather than design.
In my eyes, Christian is a star that should be pushed as a star. Look at the way they pushed the feud between Fandango and Y2J. They see Y2J as a star and give his feuds, regardless of who they are with, star power. Christian on the other hand was given a mid-card return with a feud that seems like nothing more than a mid-card feud.
I think wrestling companies really need to start listening to their audience and pushing people that the fans want to be pushed. People like Zack Ryder, Antonio Cesaro and Christian. It’s a dangerous game because sometimes when they give us what we want, it turns out it’s not what we really wanted… But if they don’t listen to us at all then it’s the DoW…

WWE Money in the Bank 2013 : Smackdown! Money In The Bank Ladder Match

Smackdownmoneyinthebank2013_crop_650x440
World Heavyweight Championship Contract Money in the Bank Ladder Match (Courtesy of WWE.com)
On this week's edition of Monday Night Raw, Stephanie McMahon announced a star-studded lineup for the WWE Championship Money in the Bank Ladder match, which will feature CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Kane, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Christian and Rob Van Dam.
In an attempt to outdo The Billion Dollar Princess, Teddy Long proposed his own set of Superstars to compete in a Money in the Bank Ladder match for a future shot at the World Heavyweight Championship at the event. The participants will include Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, Antonio Cesaro, Damien Sandow, Antonio Cesaro, Jack Swagger and Fandango.
While all seven Superstars are currently heels, that doesn't take away from the fact that the bout has the potential to steal the show. With only one former World Champion taking part in the contest, there is a very good chance that this match will help shape the stars of tomorrow.
Every one of these up-and-coming talents has his respective reasons for winning the opportunistic briefcase, but with only one winner in mind, which one of them will seize this ultimate opportunity

Report: WWE Upset With Rey Mysterio

As we noted earlier here on the website, Rey Mysterio underwent surgery this week with Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham. According to sources, WWE was upset that Mysterio underwent prior surgeries with Dr. David Chao of San Diego after a USA Today article revealed that two different hospitals in the city have banned him from performing surgery. Dr. Chao had a review conducted by Scripps Memorial and Scripps Mercy Hospitals and ruling that his alcohol consumption led to poor quality of care. Former patients of Dr. Chao have accused him of “maiming” them during surgeries along with negligence.

Former WWE Talents: Sexual Harassment In NXT?

- There are rumors on Twitter that some of the WWE NXT developmental Divas are facing sexual harassment from a trainer there.

A few weeks ago, former WWE star Trent Baretta was asked if NXT Diva Bayley is similar to him. Baretta responded:

Last week, recently released star Briley Pierce, the brother of Dolph Ziggler, made some interesting tweets but they have since been deleted. Here they are from a screencap posted on WrestlingForum.com:

Shawn Michaels Says He’s Reached Out To Eric Bischoff; Discusses His Legacy In Wrestling

WWE Hall of Famer and former four-time WWE/World Heavyweight Champion, “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels, along with his “MacMillan River Adventures” co-host, Keith Mark, were the featured guests on this week’s all-new edition of the award-winning Monday Night Mayhem, hosted by The Big Mosh & “The Chairman of the Board” Todd Vincent. Highlights from the interview, courtesy of WrestlingDVDNews.com’s Aarnon Carnevale, are as follows:

How “Shawn Michaels’ MacMillan River Adventures” is similar to the WWE: (Shawn): “It is still TV. There are still things that you have got to do. I’ve been an athlete most of my life, and I can follow instructions very well. That is one of the things Keith brings to the table: He is a good leader, and he knows what he wants. We have similarities in that respect, and I have to give Keith a ton of credit for that, because he handles everything under the sun.”

Which WWE Superstars have taken a liking to MRA Hunting and which former WWE/WCW personality they have “reached out to” that has a very good chance of appearing on the program in the future:(Shawn): “Road Dogg, Tensai, and The Big Show always talk about it. Obviously, you do your best to work with their schedule. That’s always the toughest part. But a number of guys have expressed interest, and we’re certainly going to do what we can to work around their schedules. Heck, I reached out to Eric Bischoff. So we’re going to try to get Eric to come on a show with us.”

Based on the success of MRA Hunting to this point, the likelihood of their show returning for a fourth season on the Outdoor Channel: (Keith): “I can tell you for sure that there will be 2014/2015 ‘Shawn Michaels’ McMillan River Adventures,’ because we’ve signed a long-term deal with the network the Outdoor Channel) that runs through 2015, so we have commitments.”

His thoughts on his legacy in professional wrestling & sports-entertainment and how he believes his fans will remember his career: (Shawn): “I get in trouble for it a lot, and I don’t mean it in a malicious way, but I don’t give a lot of thought to that. It’s not because I don’t care, but it is, because I recognize that I have no control over that. If nothing else, I’ve gotten really good over the years at not concerning myself with those things that I can’t control. It’s like trying to ‘make sense of the insensible,’ and I don’t waste my time or energy on that kind of stuff.”

Much more is contained in Shawn’s & Keith’s highly-anticipated Mayhem debut, including their candid thoughts on how they became friends and how their show first came to fruition, the feedback from the first season of MRA Hunting, if they believed the program would have ever seen a second/third season, why they feel they have such great on-camera chemistry between them, the biggest things they have learned while doing the show, what makes Season III different from the previous seasons of the program, why they enjoy having WWE Superstars come on their show with them, what fans can expect when watching Jim Ross’ first-ever appearance on MRA Hunting, the experience of helping the victims of the Joplin tornado, their personal get-well message to NFL Hall of Fame QB and Buffalo Bills Legend Jim Kelly, plus so much more!

Impact Wrestling Results 27, June 2013, New X Division Champ

Sting comes out and says he warned Bully Ray about the Main Event Mafia rising again, then he introduces Kurt Angle as he makes his way to the ring. Kurt says he and Sting were original members of this group, and one of the requirements for admission was that you had to be a world champion. Kurt says they fought for power and titles, and they did whatever they wanted because no one could stop them. He says that seems like what the Aces and Eights do now, and because of them, Sting will never get another world title shot in his career. Kurt says the Aces screwed him over a few times, but they are here to kick some ass and make sure Bully Ray loses his title. Kurt says they are going to fight fire with fire, and they will continue to grow when everyone meets the next member of the group.
After an X Division promo, we see Chris Sabin heading to the ring when DOC jumps him from behind and drags him in a trailer. Bully Ray tells him to calm down, and they just want to wish him luck and he hopes he wins his match. Bully says he wants him to do the right thing, and the right thing would be to not mess with him because while Sabin is a good wrestler, he is a bad person. He tells Sabin that he should get the point, then they let him go and Bully tells him to be careful with his injured knees as he walks away.
X Division Championship
Suicide vs Kenny King vs Chris Sabin
King kicks Suicide and Sabin in the face and heads up top, but they double dropkick him in midair before Sabin puts Suicide in a waistlock. Suicide switches and pushes him into the corner, then King stomps Sabin and throws Suicide outside. King slams Sabin down and taunts the crowd, then Suicide comes back in and surprises him with a missile dropkick. Suicide whips him into the ropes but King catches himself, then he taunts Suicide but Suicide dropkicks him outside. Sabin takes them both out with a plancha, then he rolls King back inside as we cut to a break. (Cont'd...)

Henry took the segment in a direction that wasn’t planned and one that nobody saw coming.
- The June 24th RAW, for the first time in weeks had minimal changes from how the show was presented on June 21st, last Friday, when scripts were finalized. John Cena and CM Punk had already gone through and approved their segments before the final script was presented.

News : CM Punk Gets Restraining Order Against His Mother

TMZ is reporting the following:
“WWE superstar CM Punk has obtained a restraining order against his estranged mother — claiming she constantly hits him up for money and then threatens to kill herself if he doesn’t come through … TMZ has learned.
Punk — real name Phillip Brooks — claims in legal docs filed in Illinois that he’s tried to break off his relationship with his mother for more than a year “due to repeated financial demands and years of abusive, harassing and threatening behavior.”
In the document, Punk says he’s made an effort to help his mom — who he claims suffers from bipolar disorder — giving her more than $100,000. But Punk says her “abusive/threatening behavior” escalated when he cut her off.
That’s when Punk’s mom allegedly unleashed a torrent of nasty emails — telling the wrestler, “You don’t give a s**t about us. You just care about your money and money hungry/fame hungry friends. You would sell us for a nickel.”
Punk also says his mother threatened to release potentially embarrassing information about her son’s past. Punk suggests the information has to do with arrests when he was in high school.
In the docs, Punk says his mother has threatened to commit suicide on at least 4 occasions in 2012.
Punk says, “I wish for the harassment to stop and am requesting the assistance of the court in this regards.”
The judge in the case granted the temporary restraining order back on June 10 — but the wrestler is due back in court today where he will likely try to extend the protection order for several years.”
