Raw » The Shield Explain Why They Attacked Mark Henry & More

- There was a backstage joke going around at Money in the Bank, saying the crowd in Philadelphia was larger than the total crowds combined for the time that Rob Van Dam worked for TNA.

- WWE aired a video on the App last night of The Shield discussing why they attacked Mark Henry. Dean Ambrose said Henry could have been anything he wanted in WWE but he’s a disappointment because he’s not hungry and has no heart. Ambrose says Henry won’t get another shot at the WWE Title because he doesn’t deserve one. Ambrose added that there’s not a lot of time left for guys like Henry.

Roman Reigns called Henry an old dog and told him to go home and sit his big butt on the couch. Seth Rollins said The Shield are the most important thing going and Henry is just a clog of injustice in a system that should have been shut down a long time ago.

News » Mark Henry Talks Retirement Speech & More News

WWE No. 1 contender Mark Henry was interviewed by WithLeather.com. Here are a few highlights.

His five-year-plan for his heralded fake retirement speech: Well, I mean, I’m a constant entertainer. It’s something that I thought of four years ago, five years ago when I signed my contract. ‘At the end of this contract, I’m going to retire and I’m going to have everybody ready for me to retire, and then I’ll get ‘em just the way I want to.’ It’s funny, [this] five-year plan. The only thing that can come to mind is Hannibal in The A-Team: “I love it when a plan comes together.”

On taking a pay cut when he re-signed with WWE: I took a 50 percent pay cut when I signed that last deal five years ago because I was looked at as being a middle-of-the-road performer. During that time, John Cena made millions, and that’s what I want. I mean, Money in the Bank is not just the name of the pay-per-view, it’s a chance for me to get my will to where I want it so when the time does come for me to officially retire, I won’t have to worry about nothing.

The ups and downs of his WWE career: Everybody that’s had the road be smooth and perfect with a steady incline, I’d like to meet ‘em. I don’t think it’s ever been done. There’s highs and lows in life, and there’s highs and lows in sports entertainment. It’s a credit to me that I’ve been around 17 years, so I’ve had a long time to have highs and lows. Obviously, I’ve done something right.

Being in the spotlight at a young age and joining the WWE: I always say smart marks talk about gimmicks and heels and faces and all that stuff. All that’s irrelevant. When I was a fan of the WWF at the time, I made note on a TV show that when I was asked, ‘What does the World’s Strongest Man do in his spare time?,’ ‘Watching the WWF on weekends and Monday’ was my response. Then, [WWE] called me and asked me if I would like to come and check the business out. That was my introduction to the WWE. As far as anything else, I’m focused on what’s going to happen on Sunday. The past is great to dwell on, but we live in the now, and me being WWE Champion is the most important thing in this universe to me. My family wholeheartedly support me, but because I’ve been less than honest, I’m probably kind of in the doghouse, but hey, I’ll take being in the doghouse and winning [at] Money in the Bank rather than having everything milk and honey.

News on Mark Henry’s Retirement Ruse, Business Notes

- Here are some WWE business notes for May 2013:
* The average live event attendance was 4,438 paid per show, up 9.9% from May 2012* WWE shipped 305,000 DVD units in May, up from 301,000 in 2012* WWE.com did 13.5 million unique visitors last month, the same as May 2012* WWE’s shop website took 613 orders per day last month, the same as May 2012
- Regarding the quality of WWE TV in recent weeks and how it pertains to the writers, word is that it’s not The McMahons nor the writers that should be credited, but a lot of good luck. A source says that the Mark Henry retirement ruse, as it was scripted, was good but far from the great segment it turned out to be. Henry took the segment in a direction that wasn’t planned and one that nobody saw coming.
- The June 24th RAW, for the first time in weeks had minimal changes from how the show was presented on June 21st, last Friday, when scripts were finalized. John Cena and CM Punk had already gone through and approved their segments before the final script was presented.

MONEY IN THE BANK 2013 : WWE Champion John Cena vs. Mark Henry

If the Cenation thought John Cena’s schedule as a WWE Champion would get any easier once he turned back the sizable challenge of Ryback at WWE Payback, they were sorely mistaken.
At Money in the Bank on July 14, The Champ will face a new monster of a contender in the form of Mark Henry, the 400-pound-plus powerhouse who thrives on causing pain and appears bent not just on destruction, but also on capturing the WWE Title around Cena’s waist.
Raw Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero made the championship bout official on the June 17 edition of Raw after The World’s Strongest Man callously leveled Cena only one night removed from The Champ’s Three Stages of Hell Match against Ryback. In the moments immediately preceding the attack, Henry delivered what many believed to be a heartfelt swan song meant to cap off a stellar 17-year career in WWE. Instead, Henry’s retirement speech was merely a ruse, a setup used to lull a respectful Cena into a false sense of security and make him easy prey.
Now, the Cenation leader and Henry are on a collision course for July 14, and if Cena loyalists aren't concerned about their hero’s title reign — not to mention his physical well-being — they ought to be.
Ill-tempered even on the best of days, Henry is sporting a huge chip on his shoulder, and it seemingly has everything to do with a single objective: winning the WWE Championship that has eluded him in his near two decades of competition. WWE fans will remember that Henry set his sights on Cena the night after WrestleMania 29, only to have another monster, Ryback, steal the spotlight with a high-profile act of betrayal.
Lost in the commotion was the fact that Henry pinned Ryback on The Grandest Stage of Them All.  Considering how much trouble Cena had overcoming the Shell Shocking Superstar in recent months, will he be up to the challenge of Mark Henry, one of WWE’s few competitors to hold a completely valid pinfall victory over “The Human Wrecking Ball”?
Henry also takes a discomforting amount of pride in being the reckless and ruthless gatekeeper of the “Hall of Pain.” The list of Superstars who have been put out of action by the superheavyweight is lengthy, reading like a “Who’s who” of WWE. Could The Champ — who’s been plagued by injuries as varied as bone chips in his elbow to a nearly torn meniscus to a torn Achilles tendon — be walking into the most dangerous match of his 11th WWE Title reign at Money in the Bank?
Find out what happens when Cena’s indefatigable spirit is put to the test by more than 400 pounds of bad attitude and bone-breaking expertise. To watch all the action, catch WWE Money in the Bank live on pay-per-view on Sunday, July 14.
